Zuckerberg developed an interest in computers at an early age; when he was about 12; solely because he discovered the fact that the world is divided between programmers and users. The first computer programming language he was taught was Atari BASIC, by the help of his father. From then on he made many small programs to keep him engaged. This included the likes of messaging program he named "Zucknet”, artificially intelligent media player “Synapse”.

To keep up with Mark's growing interest in computers, his parents hired private computer tutor David Newman to come to the house once a week and work with Mark. Newman later told reporters that it was hard to stay ahead of the prodigy, who began taking graduate courses at nearby Mercy College around this same time. Zuckerberg later studied at Phillips Exeter Academy, an exclusive preparatory school in New Hampshire.

After graduating from Exeter in 2002, Zuckerberg enrolled at Harvard University studying psychology but took mostly computer science classes due to his main interest. By his sophomore year at the Ivy League institution, he had developed a reputation as the go-to software developer on campus which was quite remarkable having said his major wasn’t Computer Science.

Later in that year he was approached by Divya Narendra’s and partners (twins) Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss with the original idea of Facebook (Harvard Connection/ConnectU).
